Crowd sourcing is a very powerful means for the network provider as well as the consumer to understand exactly what performance is being delivered to the end user under real world conditions.

Some alternative systems rely on the user of the smartphone to click a button on the device when the perceived quality of service is poor. This measurement technique has a number of deficiencies, not the least of which is the very high likelyhood of pronounced negative bias (for example, end users will rarely take the time to report a happy experience).
